Help & troubleshooting
Most bumps in a shared home are small and fixable with an early, honest conversation. Here’s calm, practical guidance on the situations that come up most often.
There’s confusion about rent or payments
Start by going back to what you both agreed — the arrangement you both recorded on Nestbys is the shared record. If rent genuinely is not being paid, there is an official process to follow; links are in Renting resources. The most important thing is to keep the conversation inside Nestbys so both sides have a clear, dated history if it is ever needed.
Cleaning and shared spaces feel unbalanced
A quick chat early saves a lot of friction later. Agree who cleans what and how often — even a simple roster on the fridge works well. Mutual respect in common areas is part of the Code of Conduct both of you signed.
Noise, overnight guests, or privacy concerns
These are best handled with an honest conversation before they become issues. Agree on quiet hours and a guests policy at the start. Every person in a shared home is entitled to reasonable privacy in their own room — that is not negotiable.
Key access or lockouts
Guests must have their own key and independent access, and must never be locked out of agreed common areas such as the kitchen, lounge, or pool. If access becomes a problem, refer to the Code of Conduct together and contact the Nestbys team — this is something we take seriously.
Questions about meals
Nestbys homestays do not include meals as standard, and Nestbys is not responsible for them. If you and your host would like to share meals or split groceries, agree it privately between yourselves — and make sure any allergies or dietary needs are clearly communicated for everyone's safety.
Bond or deposit questions
Any bond is handled directly between host and guest — Nestbys never holds it. In Queensland a bond generally must be lodged with the RTA, not kept by the host. If you are unsure of your obligations, the official guidance is in Renting resources.
Something serious has happened, or you feel unsafe
Please report it through chat and contact the Nestbys team immediately — your safety comes first. For tenancy disputes, the RTA and free advice services (Tenants Queensland, QSTARS) are there to help; links are in Renting resources. If anyone is in danger, call emergency services on 000 right away.
General guidance only — not legal advice. The golden rule: talk early, keep it on Nestbys, and treat your arrangement as the shared record.
